The Kandy Perahera.πΈπΈ
One of Sri Lanka's most important religious festivals is the Kandy Perahera or Esala Perahera. Since the introduction of Buddha's tooth relic to Sri Lanka, the Perahera has been held each year. The Kandy Perahera is a beautiful procession or parade that showcases the Kandyan people's many talents.
The whip crackers announce the start of the parade. The flag bearers, who carry the banners of the country's various regions and provinces, then follow suit. The elephant march and seeing Sri Lankan drummers perform are two of the most thrilling experiences. Drumming is a 2500-year-old tradition in Sri Lanka. At the Perahera, eleven different types of drums are employed, and these drumming displays are frequently accompanied with mysterious dancing. The elephant march may only be seen at the Perahera. Mahouts dress up a herd of roughly 10 to 12 elephants and lead them across the road. One of the elephants is also carrying the casket with the Buddha's tooth relic.
